Valgardena

   
     
 

The Valgardena is a side valley of the Val Isarco and is approximately 30 km long.
The Valgardena starts from Ponte Gradena and ends at the Sella and Gardena Pass. Through the Valgardena flies the river "Derjon". The Valgardena consists of three main communities Ortisei, S. Cristina and Selva. The parliamentary parties like St. Jakob, Pontives, Roncadizza, Bulla and Oltretorrente are also part of the three main villages. The last three parliamentary parties belongs to the community of Castelrotto, however they speaks the language of the Valgardena.
The Valgardena is a very popular vacation place and is among the most beautiful locations of South Tyrol.
The Valgardena offers a unique mountain scenery, which is marked by the famous group of Sassolungo.
The Valgardena has a variety of possibilities for the sport for any season.



During winter, there are kilometres-long Ski slopes and Cross country slopes, as well as walking paths and ascension installations.
During summer, the Valgardena offers innumerable walking paths, mountain bike paths, and climbing opportunities.
The Valgardena is a place with tradition and history. Nowadays the population speaks the Ladin language. During the years the Valgardena became a tourist place.

In the Valgardena, were also born important people, like Giorgio Moroder (composer and Oscar prize-winner), Luis Trenker (actor and director), Isolde Kostner (skier), Carolina Kostner (artistic ice skater) and many others.
